The £99 - “SUP packages” from the supermarket might seem like a great deal, perhaps a good entry point into the sport, however they’re often a waste of money and even potentially dangerous.
Budget SUPs are usually too short and too wide this results in poor glide and tracking. Moreover, as most only have a single-layer PVC construction they’ll tend to be floppy, overly flexible and easily punctured. And if they only pump to a low PSI (as many do) there’s no real rigidity causing the board to bend in the middle under the weight of the user.
The accessories supplied with these “packages” are cheap and barely fit for purpose, low quality safety leashes, heavy and flexible paddles, and pumps that can’t reach the necessary pressures.
Ultimately, after one of these purchases it will feel like paddling on a bouncy castle. Fun for 10 minutes, frustrating after that!
