What to wear on the water when paddleboarding or kayaking;

What gear do I need and what should I wear?

When buying your first craft, you'll need a few essentials to get on the water safely:

  • The Essentials: Beyond the boat or board, you’ll need a paddle and a high-quality Personal Flotation Device (PFD) - which is the most important piece of kit you'll own.
  • Apparel: For open-cockpit kayaking and SUP, we recommend quick-dry fabrics (nylon or polyester) rather than cotton. On cooler days, consider a wetsuit or a poncho for afterwards.
  • Accessories: Don't forget a dry bag for your valuables and a leash for your paddleboard.
Do I need a wetsuit for paddling?

Not necessarily, but if you plan on getting in the water as much as on it, they are a fantastic investment! While technical layers are great for staying dry on the deck, a wetsuit is your best friend for swimming, practicing your SUP balance, or paddling in cooler shoulder-season temperatures. They provide essential thermal protection and extra buoyancy, ensuring that a quick dip doesn't cut your day short.

How do I stay warm once I’m out of the water?

The "post-paddle chill" can happen fast, even on sunny days. The best way to stay warm and dry off is with a Mystic Changing Poncho. These are designed with thick, absorbent fabric to dry you instantly, and they are oversized so you can discreetly change out of your wet gear right in the car park. It’s the ultimate piece of kit for keeping the comfort going after your session ends.
